My son is in first grade and his best friend is trying to get him to join Facebook so they can play games together. I said “no” and I plan to continue to keep saying that until he’s in junior high at least, at which point there will probably be a ton more social networking apps and sites to freak me out. This is what comes to mind for me when I saw this self portrait of Willow Smith that she posted to “ Who Say ” after she shaved her head. Does someone oversee her online activities, and did they ok her posting this? She seems to be taking pictures of herself and putting them up without asking an adult, but I don’t know that for sure. I think kids should be able to pick out their clothes and hairstyles, within reason, although we’ve heard that Willow has a stylist . When I was in seventh grade, only slightly older than Willow, I shaved half my head and to my parents’ credit they didn’t freak out and just went with it. I don’t think kids should be able to independently use social networking apps without supervision, though. This is very young to be posting photos online, but I keep telling my kid that the Internet was only just coming out when I was in college. It’s a different world out there, plus Willow’s very privileged jet-setting world is much different than other little kids. She’s a pop star! Here’s more on her new look. She can’t “whip her hair” anymore. Goodness knows what her superstar father Will Smith will make of his daughters outrageous new look. But without her long locks she certainly looks more like her father Will than her mother Jada Pinkett Smith. The youngster also decided to show off her love of ballet by posting further pictures on WhoSay, which styles itself as a social network service for VIPs and celebrities. She posed for a picture where she sat on a chair in a dance studio, while in another she shows off her golden ballet shoes. In other news about Willow that’s kind of sad, Star Magazine has a cover story this week that her parents Will and Jada have split up and are on separate coasts with each of their kids. This is right on the cover, so chances are high that the kids have seen it. We’ve heard for some time that Will and Jada are having trouble: With Jaden, 13, currently living in Philadelphia with Will and Willow, 11, living mainly in L.A. with Jada – almost 3,000 miles apart – it’s only a matter of time until the split is official. And sources say the children are already devastated about being a family divided. “It’s always a shame when divorce splits up families,” Jada’s great aunt Estelle Pinkett tells Star. Indeed, as Will and Jada divide their assets and get used to living apart, one source says, “the kids are really suffering. “They haven’t spent any time as a whole family in months,” the source continues, “and it’s not going to happen anytime soon – if ever again.” [From Star Magazine, print edition, February 13, 2012] Will is in Philadelphia to shoot a movie, After Earth directed by M. Night Shamalan, and Star reminds us that Willow is going on tour in May. So it sounds Will and Jada are necessarily apart for work and are each trying to single parent one of their kids. Still, maybe Willow is acting out by shaving her head. It seems pretty normal to me. Going on tour at 11 isn’t normal though. It’s been a while since Rihanna has been blonde, right? I can’t keep up with this stuff. I think she was last blonde when she wore an unfortunate wiglet for her Armani campaign . Well, she’s done it again, only this time she’s doing some kind of 1980s hair-band style. Rihanna began tweeting behind-the-scenes photos of her Elle Magazine shoot (she’s getting an Elle cover? Meh.) in which they bleached her hair and gave her extensions. After the Elle shoot, Rihanna went to the Roxbury – I’m including a few photos from her outing, in which she wore that fug orange sweater and thigh-high leather boots. Rihanna claimed her new look is “stripperish” but I just think it’s flat-out ugly. I never understand why Rihanna does this to herself, or why she allows this to be done to her. I mean, I guess I understand the idea of “She’s 23, she’s experimenting with her look, she’s having fun.” But most of this stuff simply doesn’t look GOOD. Yesterday, we covered a story about Seal’s ex-girlfriend, Tatjana Patitz, who claims that he indeed has a violent temper , and she’s glad that Heidi Klum has separated from Seal for the sake of the children. Who really knows about the true nature of Tatjana’s motives for speaking out on the matter, but her words do lend credence to previous reports that Heidi and Seal’s split had a lot to do with Seal’s alleged emotional volatility. As stated previously, I believe that Seal does have an anger management problem that he keeps under wraps in favor of the very passive, eloquent demeanor he recently displayed during the “Ellen” appearance . This belief is based upon my own observations of abusive relationships and not upon any sort of generalization. Now the tabloids are now painting an even more frightening picture of Seal’s behavior towards Heidi and women in general. Yesterday, I was hoping that Seal’s alleged temper merely meant that he was a screamer or puncher of walls if anything, but Star puts forth an account of Seal’s anger escalating during a mid-January fight, wherein he pushed Heidi with such force that her security guard had to break things up and “ physically restrain Seal .” Scary, right? Star also talked to an insider on Seal’s recent tour who says that he generally treats women with disrespect. This is getting pretty ugly: “We will be connected [for] the rest of our lives … through this tremendous admiration, respect and love that we have for each other,” Seal said of his estranged wife, Heidi Klum, on the Jan. 24 episode of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.” But the “Project Runway” host may not share that sentiment — as Star can exclusively reveal that Seal pushed her in a blowout fight just before their split! According to a family insider, the couple, who wed in May 2005, got into a full-blown screaming match at their L.A. home in mid-January. “Heidi told friends that Seal just lost it,” the insider tells Star . “He was screaming — and, she said, he pushed her. It was horrible.” The encounter escalated to the point that Heidi’s security guard had to intervene, a source tells Star . “He had to physically restrain Seal,” the source says. And Seal’s bad behavior toward women extends far beyond Heidi, 38. While on tour with the “Kiss From A Rose” singer, a female employee claimed a number of men on Seal’s crew subjected her to sexual advancement and verbal harassment — calling her a “hooker” and accusing her of “screwing” her boss. When the situation was brought to Seal’s attention, he dismissed it “as a harmless joke,” a source tells Star . Then “after a campaign by the male crew members to get her faired, she was sacked.” It all may be a sign of who Seal, 48, truly is. “How can a man with a wife and daughter just let this happen?” says the source. “He just doesn’t seem to care.” [From Star, print edition, February 13, 2012] There’s also a story in this week’s issue of In Touch that fills in more about the Tatjana tale that we covered yesterday but also quotes an insider that believes Seal is “ acting like he’s still in love with Heidi ” as “ an important marketing tool ,” which is probably true to an extent. Still, I think that Seal is being outwardly charming to try and woo Heidi back, and he’s probably not nearly as passively loving behind closed doors. In Touch also includes another statement from Tatjana that Seal was very kind in the early months of their dating relationship because, “ In the courtship, it’s different. ” Well, it’s always different at the beginning of every relationship, right? But if you’re dating a person with anger problems, such changes can be much more jarring than simple matters like, say, simply being less thoughtful as a relationship wears on. I wanted to add an “ORLY?” at the end of the part about how Demi is a “private person” but I thought that you could easily fill that in, given what we know about Demi “twitter addict” Moore. Demi’s people have released an unofficial statement to People Magazine, meant to be some kind of damage control after her overdose on “over the counter” but dangerous drugs like Whip-its and K2 Spice. We’ve also heard how she’s addicted to Adderall, downing Red Bull and coming on inappropriately to very young guys. Now comes the inevitable response, and it’s weak: Having lived in the spotlight for more than three decades, Demi Moore has long crafted her image as a polished, glamorous star. Privately, however, the 49-year-old actress had been unraveling in the months since her November split from husband Ashton Kutcher. As she seeks treatment in the wake of her hospitalization on Jan. 23, Moore is struggling with the public nature of her breakdown. “Ego-wise, this is the worst thing that could happen to Demi, because she’s such a private person,” a source close to the actress’ circle tells PEOPLE. “She’s embarrassed.” But Kabbalah, the form of Jewish mysticism that Moore has long studied, instructs that adversity can ultimately prove beneficial, according to an insider. Moore’s troubles “can be an opportunity, a blessing, and not a curse,” says the insider. “The right intervention happened in her life. From a spiritual sense, it is a gift. I’ll just add some additional details to People’s quotes. My quotes are the ones that aren’t in italics. “ Demi Moore has long crafted her image as a polished, glamorous star ” by having her publicist leak details about how “sexy” she is when she dances on tables. “ Ego-wise, this is the worst thing that could happen to Demi, because she’s such a private person… ” which is why she tweets photos of herself in a bikini and regularly sent public love notes to her husband. “ But Kabbalah, the form of Jewish mysticism that Moore has long studied, instructs that adversity can ultimately prove beneficial, according to an insider . ” So they’re probably teaching Demi that she can move on from this, and that everything happened for reason. Given what I’ve heard about Kaballah, and knowing Demi’s celebrity status, I doubt they’re going to question her or bring awareness to the fact that she’s an addict who’s been starving herself. They give lip service to taking responsibility for her actions, but she’s not in rehab and is just doing what she always does in a crisis. Despite occasionally running stories from Demi’s publicist, People Magazine seems to feel the same way a lot of us do. They mildly call out Demi, yet again , on their cover . They say that her obsession with staying young led to her breakdown. The title of this story on their website is surprisingly harsh, for People, “ Inside Demi Moore’s Dangerous Desperation to ‘Stay Young and Skinny ‘” But as the actress approaches her 50th birthday – and her marriage to Ashton Kutcher, 33, began to crumble – several sources tell PEOPLE in this week’s cover story that the 49-year-old star battled deep feelings of insecurity. In fact, sources say the star was barely eating and partying wildly before her drug-fueled breakdown. “As Demi got older, she convinced herself that she needed to stay young and skinny to remain attractive to her husband,” says a source who knows the former couple. Continues the source: “She needed reassurance all the time that she was hot and sexy.” Another source says that Moore, who is now seeking treatment following her Jan. 23 hospitalization, “was always fixated on being young. And the only thing that tied her to that, as she got older, was her marriage to a younger guy and hanging around young people.” [From People ] We knew this, but when People says it they take it to a whole ‘nother level – that sector of the public who doesn’t pay as much attention to celebrities as we do. Demi and her aging crisis are now a major talking point. A lot of outlets are wondering whether Demi Moore’s 911 call should have been made public. I think that it’s not an issue of whether Demi’s 911 call should be public, it’s an issue of whether any 911 call should be public. It seems invasive and unnecessary. We’re hearing people and their loved ones at their most vulnerable moments, sometimes right before they die. I hate 911 calls and would prefer to never hear another one in my life. The women of Cougar Town were decked out to film a big scene for their season finale in LA yesterday. It’s rumored that the next 15-episode run of the show will begin with an engagement and end with a wedding and Busy Philipps, Courteney Cox , and Christa Miller were all in gowns for the afternoon. Courteney’s white dress in particular may imply she’ll be walking down the aisle with her onscreen love Josh Hopkins. Both Josh and Busy had an exciting weekend escorting good friends - winner Octavia Spencer for him and Michelle Williams for her – to Sunday’s SAG Awards, but yesterday they were back to work on Cougar Town . The third season kicks off on Valentine’s Day; get a sneak peek at the Cougar Town premiere before it airs! In addition, David Arquette is scheduled to make a cameo on at least one episode and Couteney stepped behind the camera to direct . The fate of the sitcom is still up in the air, and Courteney confessed on her newly created Twitter account “she sure hopes” there will be more to come from the cul-de-sac crew.
