Several weeks ago, a particularly interesting piece of casting news broke – Blake Lively had been cast in a lead role in a Steven Soderbergh-directed film . It was believed that Blake was Soderbergh’s choice to play a pill-popping military wife in The Side Effects , and the cast was rounded out with Channing Tatum (as Blake’s husband) and Jude Law (as Blake’s therapist/lover). It would have been a really big deal for Blake, if she delivered even a solid-to-good performance in a Soderbergh film. Unfortunately, last week, everything seemed to fall apart . Producers went public saying that Blake was not cast in the role, had never been officially cast, and that the film could not be financed with Blake in the lead role. What happened? It’s up for debate. Some blame producers, some blame Soderbergh’s unconventional casting habits, some blame Blake’s history as a not-so-stunning actress. Whatever happened, it does look bad for Blake, though. And it looks even worse now – Blake is officially OUT. Guess who’s in the role now? Rooney Mara. There isn’t an “UUUUUGGGGHHH” big enough. In her first lead role since her Oscar-nominated turn in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, Rooney Mara has just committed to starring in Side Effects, the Steven Soderbergh-directed thriller. Mara will replace Blake Lively in a film that also stars Jude Law, Channing Tatum and Catherine Zeta-Jones. Mara plays Emily Hawkins, a sexy but unsettled young woman who is taking serious amounts of prescription drugs to deal with anxiety and depression surrounding the pending release of her husband from prison. Her husband has been in prison for three years and after taking a new medicine she was prescribed, she unknowingly murders her husband and stands trial for murder. Scott Z. Burns wrote the script, and Open Road will distribute in the U.S. It looked like Megan Ellison’s Annapurna Pictures would be financier, but I have been hearing that is a bit shaky. Greg Jacobs and Lorenzo di Bonaventura are producing. Shooting begins in April. Since her breakout performance as Lisbeth Salander, Mara has been courted for several major roles, including the female lead in the Kathryn Bigelow film about the hunt for Osama Bin Laden. That film clashed with her promotional schedule on Dragon Tattoo. Mara is currently in Tokyo promoting the film. [From Deadline ] So, is that it? Rooney Mara is “better” than Blake Lively? Rooney is a better actress, sure. But I simply LIKE Blake more. Blake is a professional, she carries herself like a young actress who is simply happy to work, and Blake’s interviews don’t make me want to punch her in the face. I hope Steven Soderbergh likes being disrespected by an entitled, snotty little girl , because Rooney Mara has no appreciation for the opportunities she’s had as an actress, and she has a history of being an unprofessional brat. Also, I don’t buy Rooney as capable of playing “sexy”. She’s milquetoast, asexual and bland. Sigh… I was really hoping Rooney wouldn’t “happen” in Hollywood, but she ended up with an Oscar nomination (BEST ACTRESS?!?!!?) and now this. It’s so depressing when people with terrible personalities succeed in life. Photos courtesy of WENN.

Here are some new photos of LeAnn Rimes. I really don’t have to write much more than that, right? You ladies love LeAnn posts, and it’s not even about what I write. With that in mind, I’d just like to say that I kind of like LeAnn’s dress here. I understand that she’s in a warmer climate, but it seems wrong for January. Still, if she wore this in June, I would still think it was a pretty dress. I like it when LeAnn doesn’t wear some freakish “look at me, I’m dressin’ provocatively, y’all” getup. Anyway, these photos are of LeAnn’s arrival at LAX – she had been in Dallas for some reason: She was seen tucking in a hotdog as she enjoyed a basketball game on Saturday night. But the trip to her hometown of Dallas was short and sweet and LeAnn Rimes was seen jetting back into LAX on Sunday. LeAnn, 29, appeared to be stepping her style well and truly into the spring season and looked lovely in a sundress. The snakeskin print dress had neon green piping around the edges for a flash of colour and a chic and stylish look. Never one to travel in a dressed down fashion the singer stepped out in brown wedge heels which she was seen teetering in to the car. While we are used to seeing LeAnn taking the less is more approach when it comes to clothing, her attire was in fact in keeping with the warm temperatures LA enjoyed over the weekend. LeAnn had taken a trip back home to meet with friends and was without her husband Eddie Cibrian. On Saturday night LeAnn was seen taking in the Mavericks game with pals and she was also seen tucking into a tasty treat, something many of her fans would be surprised to see. The singer has often been criticised for her skinny frame although she was looking a healthier frame during a holiday in Hawaii earlier this month. [From The Mail ] If you’d like to see those photos of LeAnn woofing down a hot dog, go here . She was criticized for deep-throating the dog, but I didn’t really understand the criticism. It just seemed like she was simply EATING, you know? She wasn’t rubbing the hot dog on her bolt-ons or anything. And shouldn’t we be encouraging her to eat? Photos courtesy of Fame.

LeAnn Rimes’s casual airport look: too summery or simply pretty?
This is The Face of Bangs Trauma. There is NO NEED for a woman to do this to herself. Poor Rose Byrne. She’s so beautiful and so talented, but her hair issues have destroyed her chances to ever become “someone to watch” on the red carpet. Plus, the girl has NO style. At the SAGs last night, the cast of Bridesmaids was out in full force. I sometimes feel like Rose is the odd girl out of that cast, maybe because she’s the only non-American, maybe because she’s known more as a dramatic actress, maybe because SHE HAS CODE RED BANGS TRAUMA. I don’t know. Whatever is going on with her, it’s not good. Rose wore this 2009 Elie Saab jumpsuit that is easily my choice for Worst SAG Outfit. It’s not that I hate jumpsuits or anything – sometimes, a jumpsuit is a really cute red carpet choice. But this one, with the stiff, beaded, brocade material and the shoulder embellishments, it’s all just awful. The cherry on top is the awful “Dutch Boy” hair. It’s epic in its hideousness. Poor Rose. Compared to Rose, anyone else is going to look better, right? So why did Kristen Wiig still manage to mess up her look too? I like and respect Kristen so much… which is why I really want her to find a (better?) stylist. CB really likes Kristen’s Balenciaga gown, and while the beigey color completely washes Kristen out, the gown itself is well-constructed and pretty. The biggest problem here is the hair and the giant choker. I don’t hate Kristen as a brunette, but while she’s darker, she shouldn’t go so dark with her makeup too, because the effect looks really cheap. Go ahead an hate me, but I thought Melissa McCarthy was the best dressed of all of the Bridesmaids girls. She looked classy and simple. I would like to her in a brighter color, maybe. Her dress was Badgley Mischka – I’m glad Badgley Mischka gowns are returning to the red carpet, aren’t you? And here’s Maya Rudolph in Naeem Khan. I don’t think this dress suits her at all – it’s WAY too matronly. Maya is only 39 years old – this is the kind of dress I could have seen on Meryl Streep or Glenn Close, you know? Rose Byrne & the ‘Bridesmaids’ ladies: worst dressed of the SAGs?
Remember that ridiculous sequin peek-a-boo Marchesa that Lea Michele wore to the Golden Globes? She looked like an overdressed fool, and she preened like up-and-comer clawing her way up so frantically that all she does is lose ground. While she was ever-so-slightly more demure at last night’s SAGs, Lea still overdid it and brought the LOLs. She wore this Versace in shades of gray with a nearly waist high leg slit that she kept pointing her foot out of for effect. The chest featured a structural bra in which one of her boobs was highlighted with a swirl pattern and the other led up to a single shoulder strap. It made her look lopsided, but it might have worked on a more likable actress. On Lea “pose hard” Michele, everything just reeks of entitlement and desperation. She can ruin the best dress. Dianna Agron never gets her fashion quite right, but her attitude is a breath of fresh air compared to Lea’s. Dianna was in fuschia ruffled Carolina Herrera which featured a deep v-neck draped neckline and a subtle ribbon belt. I thought it was a lovely dress but a little understated for a big awards ceremony. Still, she gets points for not going as big, or as fug as some of her costars. I loved her delicate braided hair, perfect peach makeup and gorgeous diamond accessories. Amber Riley was so hot in red at the Globes , but she really had a fashion misstep here in a black and pink lace Badgley Mischka dress featuring a giant bow across the front. What was she thinking? Does she have only bad fashion enablers around her? She paired it with a headband and those ankle strap heels which are so popular lately. The overall look was just fug. Jayma Mays stunned in sequin cap sleeve formfitting Reem Acra. It was an amazing dress and the only distracting detail was a v-shaped lace cutout in back. She sometimes dresses too girly and precious but she really killed it last night. Jenna Ushkowitz left a lot to be desired in this bizarre rainbow confetti print Rebecca Minkoff with cut outs around the stomach and back and a sheer skirt. Again, who is telling these actresses that they look good? Is this look supposed to be “whimsical”? Also failing to work a sheer skirt is Heather Morris , who paired this Masai Payan with silver platform heels. I think with those cat eyes, giant bauble earrings and off-the shoulder dress, Heather takes the prize for most overdressed. There was some seriously stiff competition among this group. And I can’t forget Jane Lynch , in a lovely cobalt blue v-neck David Meister with Lorraine Schwartz jewelry. I really liked that dress on her, which was conservative but striking. Did you see the bizarre juggle-off that Giuliana had with Jane? Giuliana was trying way too hard with the props last night. I loved how Jane said hello to her “ mom, my aunt marge, my brother and sister who are watching today from the south side of Chicago .” That was cute. Update : I forgot Naya Rivera ! She had on a pale blue and white swirled Naeem Khan sequin gown with a v-neck. I just thought the dress was too “cookie cutter.” I know I should like it, but maybe the colors are underwhelming. I would like to see her in something brighter and a little more daring.

Heidi Klum recently announced her split from Seal, however she doesn’t seem to be splitting from her wedding ring! Our Splash cameras caught the model mom wearing the gold band as she picked up her children from karate class in California. The sighting comes just days after Seal announced he would still be wearing his ring. In an interview with Ellen DeGeneres, The soulful singer revealed that it is still a symbol of how he feels about Heidi, and that they will always be connected. Seal also opened up to Piers Morgan stating that the possibility of reconciliation exists, and that he wears the ring because he is still married to this incredible woman. Hollywood was shocked when the power couple announced the split, however the rings give us a glimmer of hope!

Cameron Diaz has been in Paris all week – go here and here to review our coverage of Camy’s various costume changes. She’s been all over the place during Paris Fashion Week, to the point where her appearances seem… I don’t know… odd. Like, yesterday, she went to the Armani show, the Givenchy show, and the Chanel show. Before that, it was Dior and Versace, and some other ones thrown in. Look, Camy loves fashion, and God knows, it’s probably a lot of fun to get free clothes and show up at runway shows. But I’ve got to wonder – doesn’t Cameron have better things to do with her time? Anyway, as we keep discussing, Cameron’s face is looking different. CB thinks she definitely looks tweaked, and while I agree, I don’t think Camy looks as horrible as she did when she was with Alex Rodriguez. That man did serious damage to Camy’s girl-next-door, California-Girl beauty. Six months ago, Camy’s face looked bloated, waxy and rough – but in the photos from Paris, I think she looks better. Now Radar is getting into the mix with what’s going on with Cameron’s face: First her breasts and now her face? Since breaking up with baseball star Alex Rodriguez last year, Cameron Diaz seems to have gone out of her way to prove she is young, carefree and single! Cameron will be turning 40 in August, and RadarOnline.com has new photos that suggest she has gone to extremes to turn back the clock before her landmark birthday. “There’s something about Cameron Diaz’s face that is very unusual,” celebrity plastic surgeon Dr. Anthony Youn, who has not worked with the star, told RadarOnline.com in an exclusive interview. “She looks like she’s preparing to take her costar Jim Carrey’s role in The Mask!” As RadarOnline.com previously reported, it was less than a month ago when formerly flat chested Cameron’s suddenly voluptuous figure sparked speculation that she had gotten breast implants. The Bad Teacher star showcased her startling new look at the 2012 Versace Spring/Summer show during Paris Fashion Week, where she gave Donatella Versace a run for her money in the fake stakes! “Her forehead is excessively smooth, a possible consequence of overdone Botox injections. Her face also looks extremely shiny,” Dr. Youn went on to say about Cameron. “Although I do not believe she’s had a facelift,” he explained. “Laser treatments or chemical peels could account for her smooth, shiny skin. I recommend that she get some mattifying gel as soon as possible to calm it down.” It is not the first time that Diaz has had work done on her face. In 2006, she admitted to having a nose job but claimed it was for “medical purposes,” after she broke it in a surfing accident. [From Radar ] That’s the plastic surgeon’s big, scandalous reveal? Camy had Botox and she’s too shiny? Whatever. I guess I agree about the immovable forehead, and I doubt she had a facelift or an eye job. I think she was messing around with fillers last year with horrible results, and most of her “new look” is the result of “deflating” after the fillers. Photos courtesy of WENN, Fame.

I don’t even know. Life & Style has a sketchy history with their cover stories about Angelina Jolie and Shiloh. It began in 2010, when Shiloh got her little bob haircut and everyone freaked out because bob haircuts = lesbianism , obviously. And God knows, little girls should ONLY have long hair. There was significant backlash against Life & Style for basically declaring that Shiloh was a lesbian (because of her hair), but that didn’t stop the tabloid from running several more covers in the same vein, meaning that Shiloh has been “manipulated” into her tomboy lifestyle by her EVIL, horrible mother, Angelina. And now this – photos came out a few days ago of Angelina and the kids at the Farmer’s Market – see them here . Shiloh was working a new, shorter haircut. Which, obviously, is the direct result of Angelina’s awful parenting, which has obviously caused Shiloh’s lesbianism. Of course. Shiloh shows no signs of changing her obsession with being a little boy and while Angeline thinks it’s great, is Brad worried about bullying? Shiloh Jolie-Pitt showed off the cut while out with her siblings and mother, Angelina Jolie, on January 22. In the August issue of Vanity Fair, Angelina explains the short style, saying, “She wants to be a boy. So we had to cut her hair. She likes to wear boys’ everything. She thinks she’s one of the brothers.” While Angelina seems all for the look, Life & Style reports that sources say Brad Pitt is concerned that other children will tease Shiloh. Poor Brad, it must be so hard for a parent to have to be concerned about his child being bullied! [From Hollywood Life ] Yes, Brad is so concerned! He’s the good parent, you see. And when he finally leaves Angelina, he’ll bring Shiloh to Jennifer Aniston, and Aniston will magically convince Shiloh to wear her hair longer, and instantly, Shiloh will no longer be a lesbian! HUZZAH. Seriously, though – LEAVE SHAX ALONE . She’s doing her own thing, Montenegro Style. The kid has an excess of personality, which speaks to her parents creating an environment in which their kids’ individuality can flourish. Cover courtesy of Hollywood Life, WENN, Fame.

Yesterday there was a lot of debate over comments that Cynthia Nixon made to the NY Times in which she asserted that it was her “choice” to be gay . Many gay people find those remarks potentially damaging to the gay community, as they can be misused to make the claim that all gay people “chose” to be with same sex partners. Well Cynthia did make the distinction that her comments only applied to her situation, and I thought she made a good case. She said, in part, “ they said [the remarks in a speech I made imply] that homosexuality can be a choice. And for me, it is a choice. I understand that for many people it’s not, but for me it’s a choice, and you don’t get to define my gayness for me .” Fair enough, but a lot of people wonder why Cynthia doesn’t self identify as bisexual if she feels that it’s her “choice” to be with a woman instead of a man. In an interview with The Daily Beast, Cynthia kind-of explains that. You’ve been quoted as saying about these two relationships in your life: “In terms of sexual orientation, I don’t really feel I’ve changed … I’ve been with men all my life and I’d never fallen in love with a woman. But when I did, it didn’t seem so strange. I’m just a woman in love with another woman.” I’m a bit confused. Were you a lesbian in a heterosexual relationship? Or are you now a heterosexual in a lesbian relationship? That quote seemed like you were fudging a bit. It’s so not fudging. It’s so not. I think for gay people who feel 100 percent gay, it doesn’t make any sense. And for straight people who feel 100 percent straight, it doesn’t make any sense. I don’t pull out the “bisexual” word because nobody likes the bisexuals. Everybody likes to dump on the bisexuals. But it is the “B” in LGBT. CN: I know. But we get no respect You just said “we,” so you must self-identify as one. I just don’t like to pull out that word. But I do completely feel that when I was in relationships with men, I was in love and in lust with those men. And then I met Christine and I fell in love and lust with her. I am completely the same person and I was not walking around in some kind of fog. I just responded to the people in front of me the way I truly felt… Look, I understand for political reasons why some people want to kind of squelch this idea that being gay might be a choice, because a lot of the rights we want are posited on the supposition that why are you denying me my rights any more than if I were created a different color? But I don’t feel the need to cede the definition of what a gay person is to the bigots. They don’t get to define who I am. [From The Daily Beast ] I like that she’s asserting that she can call herself gay if she wants, and that no one else can tell her who she is. I also get how this can really piss off gay people, because it can be a hard fight for some people to be accepted for how they know they were born. It seems sad that being bisexual is still a dirty word today, especially for men. I wish there was greater acceptance that our sexuality is on a continuum and that there are people in the middle. It was refreshing when Anna Paquin came out as bisexual , because it was just so rare to hear. Cynthia is also bald as a badger (I’ve never heard that phrase before, but google suggested it and I thought it was cute.) She’s starring as a cancer victim in the play Wit . Instead of just wearing a skull cap, Cynthia really did shave off all her hair. She told The Daily Beast that she doesn’t like her new look. “ I think I look like Ralph Fiennes as Lord Voldemort. Or maybe Nosferatu .” Cynthia is a breast cancer survivor after being diagnosed with early stage cancer almost five years ago. She seems to have beaten it with a lumpectomy and she still takes Tamoxifen. Photo from ABC via OMG! . She is shown with hair on 12-13-11 credit: WENN.com

Cynthia Nixon: “Everybody likes to dump on the bisexuals”
Yesterday we heard that Halle Berry’s ex, Gabriel Aubry, was being investigated for misdemeanor battery and child endangermen t after an altercation with a nanny who works for both Halle and Gabriel. Apparently the nanny confronted Aubry over not bringing his nearly four year-old daughter, Nahla, to school. The argument then got heated, with the nanny telling police that Gabriel verbally abused her and then pushed her while she was holding Nahla. The nanny claims she almost fell and that she was slammed against the wall. Opinions on this story were very polarized. Some people thought the nanny was on team Halle and was trying to malign Gabriel, which is supported by the nanny’s claims that Gabriel often called her a “spy” when she was at his house. Maybe she does have allegiances to Halle, but even if that’s the case it doesn’t rule out Aubry being abusive. Also, the nanny told the police the minor and unnecessary detail that Nahla had a rash that Gabriel refused to treat. Why would she tell them that unless she was throwing accusations out there trying to see what would stick? Plus, the nanny lost a restraining order bid she had against Gabriel. In the restraining order, she admits opening his apartment door with a key she had on January 18 just prior to the altercation and she makes no mention of knocking. On the other hand, we’ve heard for some time that Aubry has an explosive temper, and why would the nanny bother to take out a restraining order unless she was afraid of him? It’s not too farfetched to imagine him going off on an employee who overstepped her bounds and then pushing her out the door. Well a new article in Radar has a “source” close to Gabriel who claims that he didn’t push the nanny and that she “tripped.” However, Aubry is telling a very different version of events. “Why in the world would Gabriel push the nanny causing her to fall while she was holding his daughter?” a source close to the situation asks. “Gabriel is fiercely protective of Nahla. The nanny tripped, and she fell while holding Nahla. Yes, Gabriel and the nanny were arguing, he felt like his parenting skills were under attack again. Gabriel can’t believe how out of control this situation has become. He is hopeful that criminal charges won’t be filed against him.” As RadarOnline.com previously reported, the nanny says that last Wednesday she went to pick Nahla up at school and she wasn’t there, so she went to Gabriel’s home. “Gabriel and the nanny got into an argument because no one alerted her that Nahla didn’t go to school,” a source told RadarOnline.com. The source went on to claim that Aubry allegedly verbally abused the nanny, before things took a turn for the physical. “She picked up Nahla to leave and Gabriel yelled at her and shoved her out the door so hard that she hit the wall — while she had Nahla in her arms!” the source alleges, adding that the nanny claims the abuse is ongoing. The nanny filed a police report and Aubrey is now being investigated for misdemeanor battery and child endangerment. [From Radar ] When someone issues a denial that starts with a question, it’s suspect to me. “ Why would I do that? ” is not the same as categorically saying “ I didn’t do that ,” although the source later claims that the nanny “tripped.” Yesterday there was a court hearing in which Halle asked for an emergency “no contact” order for Gabriel and their daughter until the investigation into this incident was completed. TMZ reports that the judge left the custody arrangement “as is” and put off a ruling until the judge who has been handling this case returns from vacation. Radar has more information that “ The Los Angeles Department of Children & Family Services is expected to interview Berry, Aubry, and the nanny in the next several days .” Let’s pretend that none of these people are famous and that we only know their situation and nothing else about them. You have a couple who went through an acrimonious divorce and who both love their daughter. The mother doesn’t want the father to have contact with his daughter at all and has actively worked to limit their contact. A nanny who works for the mother claims that the father yells a lot, is verbally abusive towards her and pushed her twice out the door, once with his daughter in her hands. Barring our feelings on whether the guy is abusive, and whether this is emotionally damaging to his child, is it enough to deny him all contact with his daughter? It’s a hard accusation to prove, so probably not. I could see supervised visitation continuing indefinitely, though. Gabriel and Nahla are shown on 1-13, 1-9, 1-6 and 12-28. Credit: WENN.com
