The ceremony is Germany’s equivalent of the Oscars, and it comes about three weeks before France’s prestigious Césars occur on Feb. 24. During the cermony, The Avengers star Scarlett accepted the Best International Actress honor from German star Til Schweiger. The corresponding male honor went to Denzel Washington , who’s been in Europe promoting his upcoming thriller Safe House . Surely one of the most heart-wrenching gigs of his career, a grieving Nick Carter took the stage at NYC’s Irving Plaza on Thursday (February 2) – just two days after the sudden death of his sister Leslie. Visibly emotional following the shocking event, the “Backstreet Boys” singer held back tears as he dedicated “Falling Down,” a ballad, to his late sister. “I’ve never done this before, and I never thought I’d ever have to, but I’d like to dedicate this song to my sister,” Carter told the crowd of more than 700 fans. According to police reports, 25-year-old Leslie Carter died in Upstate New York of an apparent accidental prescription drug overdose.

Brad Pitt stopped by the Lehmann Maupin Gallery to check out their Sandro Kopp exhibit in NYC last night. Sandro is a German artist and the boyfriend of Tilda Swinton, who worked with Brad on The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Burn After Reading . Brad’s been making the rounds chatting up Moneyball in the Big Apple all week including a stop by the Today show and The Daily Show . He also visited Pace University to tape an episode of Inside the Actors Studio , which will air on Feb. 10. Brad opened up about his family life in the interview by sharing a glimpse into their morning routine with the kids saying, “Listen, I admit there’s times like ‘We gotta get up. Get up! Here’s your shoes. Here’s your shoes. Drink this Coke. Drink this Coca-Cola. Drink it all. Right now! Drink it! Drink it! Ol’ Kat-face takes the cover of this week’s Life & Style , and those are maybe the funniest cover lines I’ve ever seen on a tabloid: Undateable, Losing Millions, Gained 15 Pounds and No Friends. OMG 15 POUNDS!!!!! Like that’s really on the list of why Kim Kardashian is totally going to have a “breakdown” y’all. As for the “undateable” thing – my mother and I were actually discussing Kim’s dating prospects (for real, this was an actual conversation I had with my mom). My mom thinks that Kim is a “catch” for a certain kind of rich, powerful man ( “in LA,” my mother hedged), while I think that no dude who has any self-respect would get involved with the Kardashian Katastrophe at this point. But it doesn’t really matter. This Life & Style piece is just some fluff to make us feel sorry for poor Kat-face. Bruce Jenner even gets into the act by describing the DIRE circumstances Kim finds herself in currently – “It’s tough for a woman at 30 — not married, no kids.” STFU, Facelift. Everybody has been talking about this HBO movie, Game Change , for months now. We saw a teaser trailer back in December , and now the full-length trailer is out. Game Change is the movie about the 2008 election, only it’s not about how Pres. Obama became Pres. Obama or anything (or is it?), it’s just about the concentrated time frame of mid-August 2008 to November 2008, basically the last two-and-a-half months in the political landscape where EVERYTHING went crazy. And by crazy, I mean Sarah “Barracuda” Palin. Julianne Moore was cast as former Alaska governor Sarah Palin, and while I had my doubts about the casting, this trailer has eased my mind a little bit. Not only does Julianne seem to be doing a good-to-stellar job as Palin, Ed Harris really does look like John McCain here. Here’s the trailer: You know what I like? I like that Julianne (and the film in general) deftly and smartly avoids making Palin into a caricature. Palin, by her own hand and by her opponents‘, can easily be made into a cartoon, a piece of fluff, a comedy bit, a party trick. The film seems to rely heavily on anecdotes that John Heilemann and Mark Halperin (authors of Game Change ) compiled from disgruntled McCain staffers post-election.
