These are some just-released photos of this evening’s Cannes Film Festival premiere of The Paperboy , starring Nicole Kidman, John Cusack, Zac Efron and Matthew McConaughey. I already covered today’s earlier photo call here. For the premiere, Nicole wore this… raspberry (?) Lanvin gown. I’m usually not big on Lanvin – I think the label is so overrated – but this is a lovely dress, and it looks great on Nicole. It’s a much better color for her than that orange-red earlier to day. I’m also loving her hairstyle here – I love a loose updo. My one complaint? I really feel like Nicole tweaked her nips before walking the red carpet. Either that, or it’s really cold in Cannes? Incidentally, the early reviews of The Paperboy have been BRUTAL. Most critics think it’s a POS, and Nicole Kidman is a total hot mess in it. Vulture carried a spoiler-filled piece about one particular scene in the film – apparently, Zac Efron gets tung by a jellyfish and Nicole’s character urinates all over his chest. Alec Baldwin and his fiancée , 28-year-old (!!) Hilaria Thomas have been in Cannes for more than a week. From what I can see (glancing through Alec’s IMDB), Alec was not there to promote anything, and I think he and Hilaria just came to party. Page Six says Alec has been shooting a documentary about (or in) Cannes, which… sure. Whatever. It just seems like Alec wants to show off his young, yoga-instructor fiancée, which is fine, I guess. He’s been showing her around and they’ve done every big event, and it’s been fine. Page Six reports this morning that Alec may have an ulterior motive for this trip, though – apparently, Alec and Hilaria are going to elope shortly after Cannes. Alec Baldwin is working on a top-secret project in Cannes, according to sources — eloping with fiancée Hilaria Thomas. The “30 Rock” star has made plans to stay on in Europe after he’s done shooting his Cannes documentary with director James Toback, and sources tell us he could be tying the knot with Thomas in Europe sometime after the film festival closes Sunday. “They’ve been telling people they’ll be spending time in Europe, and there’s speculation they’re going to get married,” said a source close to the pair. Another added that Baldwin has scheduled time for possible nuptials into post-Cannes work plans in Europe. Mallorca-born Thomas, who’d be his second wife, grew up in Boston and Spain. Baldwin proposed on Long Island last month. After any nuptials, Baldwin’s scheduled to return to star in Woody Allen’s new movie with Bradley Cooper and Cate Blanchett this summer in San Francisco and New York. His screen musical “Rock of Ages” with Tom Cruise opens in the US and the UK June 15. Meanwhile, Baldwin locked horns on the Riviera with de facto king of Cannes Harvey Weinstein after Weinstein turned down an offer to appear in Baldwin and Toback’s “Seduced and Abandoned.” The film’s landed interviews with Brett Ratner, Roman Polanski, Martin Scorsese, Graydon Carter, James Woods, Lawrence Bender, Cannes Mayor Bernard Brochand and Jean Pigozzi. “Harvey said he didn’t want to be in it,” a source said. “When they couldn’t reach an agreement, you’ve got two passionate people . . . it’s understandable each would be emotional about it.” A film insider said the move could be a blessing in disguise: “If Harvey’s in [the movie], which companies will want to buy it?” But sources say Weinstein could yet do the film for a dramatic Cannes ending. “Harvey’s definitely considering it, it’s just a question of his schedule,” a source said. Baldwin’s rep had no comment. [From Page Six ] Ignoring the Weinstein stuff for a moment, let’s just talk about Alec and Hilaria. I really wonder about this young woman. The tabloids claimed that Hilaria is trying to get Alec to live a healthier, less rage-filled lifestyle , and I do have to say that Alec does look like he’s lost some weight. He looks tired, though. He’s trying to keep up with his 20-something girl, he’s trying not to RAGE 24 hours a day, and he’s trying to become a new man. Maybe it will work out, maybe it won’t. Will Alec Baldwin and his 28-year-old fiancée Hilaria Thomas elope after Cannes?

As you probably know, Men in Black III is coming. It’s out tomorrow actually. I still remember seeing the first movie like 20 years ago. It seems like forever, but I just checked and it was 1997 , still ages ago. Men in Black II was out in 2002, a full ten years ago. So they’re releasing the third one a decade later since no one puts movie money into original ideas anymore.(Sometimes for good reason .) Kaiser, Bedhead and I were wondering if this will make back its production budget, a very steep $375 million(!) according to Wikipedia . It’s a huge gamble, but it could pay off. Bedhead wrote that “ it might squeak by if you add in international ticket sales and merchandising .” Plus, you know, it’s got Will Smith in it and he’s a big draw. Speaking of Will, his youngest two children, Willow and Jaden came out to the premiere in New York last night, as did his wife, Jada. Jada was just in Canne s looking like a million bucks at Sean Penn’s Haiti benefit, so it’s nice to see her fly back to support her husband. We’ve heard split rumors about these two for a long time, but they were spotted out together during the European promotion for the film earlier this month. I tend to think they went through a rough patch and worked it out, like a lot of other couples. Is it goofy to say that I’m rooting for them? I really like them together. Willow wore this ridiculous long shirt featuring Freddie Kruger at the hemline, like he’s jumping out from her lap. I would conveniently “lose” that thing if my daughter owned it. Willow is 11! She’s just a tween, but her parents are treating her like a little adult . They’ve made a lot of parenting decisions I disagree with, particularly putting their kids in the business so young. I guess they’re letting her express herself through her fashion and hairstyles, which I can’t argue with too much if she’s covered up. Kids know what they like to wear, and there’s no use forcing them to dress a certain way. (Although I would draw the line at Freddie Kruger dresses.) I just looked up some quotes from Will Smith to add to this story, and I found this really awesome one about how Jaden, 13, asked President Obama if aliens were real. Will, of course, has been gunning to play Obama for a while , saying that he’s the “natural choice.” This story about Jaden asking Obama about aliens is a much better one, and I know my kid would bug me to let him ask the President something like this. Here it is: Will Smith was left red-faced after his son asked U.S president Barack Obama if aliens are real during a visit to the White House. The Men in Black star banned his son Jaden from asking the extra-terrestrial question ahead of a guided tour of the President’s home with his family, but the cheeky 13-year-old actor couldn’t resist defying his dad. The youngster popped the question as Obama showed the family around the “situation room” – where the president holds meetings during a crisis – and the U.S. leader was happy to answer him. Smith tells BBC Radio 1 host Chris Moyles, “The night before Jaden had said to me, ‘Dad, I gotta ask the president about the aliens,’ and I’m like, ‘Dude, no, it’s not cool. It’s embarrassing. Do not ask the president!’ So we get into the situation room and Jaden gets the look in his eyes and he leans over to me and asks, ‘Dad, What’s my punishment?’ “And Barack is starting to talk about this situation room and Jaden says, ‘Excuse me Mr. President?’ and I’m like, ‘Hey, Barack man, listen?’ and Barack said, ‘Don’t tell me.’ And in perfect form – and this is why he is the president – he stopped and looked at Jaden and said, ‘The aliens, right? OK, I can neither confirm nor deny the existence of extra-terrestrials but I can tell you if there had been a top secret meeting and if there would have been a discussion about it, it would have taken place in this room.’” [From The Huffington Post ] That’s hilarious and I love Obama’s answer! Have you seen this game Obama Alien Defense ? I would say that must be where Jaden got the idea, but his dad has been kicking alien ass at the movies forever. I think they should do a film where Will Smith as Obama fights aliens, like Independence Day except with the Commander in Chief. You don’t need to vary a good formula much, at least that’s the premise the movie industry operates under. As for Jada’s black deep v-neck dress I kind of love it for some other event, and wonder if it’s from her Cannes luggage. The skirt is so sheer it looks like she’s wearing granny panties underneath. It’s too dressy and sexy for her husband’s premiere is what I’m saying, but he probably loves it. So maybe it’s just the right outfit. Josh Brolin looking like a handsome rogue. Jada Pinkett Smith supports Will at the MIB III premiere: too sexy or gorgeous?

Nicole Kidman arrived in Cannes a few days ago , even though her promotional work for The Paperboy didn’t start until today. I guess Nicole just wanted to party and schmooze in the South of France. Maybe she’s hoping to soak up the vibe considering she’s going to be playing Princess Grace of Monaco . The photos of Nicole in the orange-red Antonio Berardi Fall 2012 are from today’s photo call for The Paperboy. Thoughts on Nicole’s dress? I like that she went with a bold color, although I’m not crazy about this particular bold color. The cut and design of the dress is solid, and the tailoring is lovely. My only real complaint is the color, actually. Also in attendance at the photo call: Lee Daniels (the director), Zac Efron, John Cusack, Matthew McConaughey and Macy Gray. A few more things about Nicole. One, her Botox-face is still, as ever, ridiculous. I don’t think her forehead or eyebrows moved a centimeter once during the photo call. And her lips- still ridiculous. But really, let’s talk about Nicole’s boobs. I’ve long claimed that shortly after Nicole gave birth to Sunday Rose, she got some implants . I actually have an eloborate conspiracy theory involving Nicole’s bolt-ons, but we don’t need to get into that right now. Let’s just say that there has been photo evidence in the past that indicates to me that Nicole’s tatas are not all real. I believe she got something done, and while I appreciated that she kept them smaller (they look fine on her frame), I’m now wondering if she went back to the surgeon’s office and got some even bigger implants. We’ve gotten emails about this too, and CB and I spent way too much time last night inspecting Nicole’s rack like boob scientists. To the boob laboratory!!! Have a nice trip, see you next fall! Robert Pattinson had a little trouble getting into his boot in Cannes, France today. The Twilight hunk was exiting the Eden Roc hotel when he tripped while getting into his boot. Luckily the agile actor caught himself (with a little help from security & staff) and made it unharmed. Dressed in a Tuxedo, RPattz was on his way to support girlfriend Kristen Stewart during the premiere of her film, On the Road at the Cannes Film Festival.
