The Help won big at last night’s SAG Awards, with Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer taking home statues for leading and supporting actress. The film also won for motion picture cast, beating out The Artist and Bridesmaids among others. Viola gave some inspirational speeches as we’ve come to expect from her. I think she’s got the Oscar on lock down. She got me all choked up yet again when she talked about being inspired as a little girl to become an actress. Here’s part of her acceptance speech for lead actress and I’m including a photo of her posing with Cecily Tyson: “ I was eight years old when I decided to be an actress. I am am so privileged to be gazing on the beautiful face of the woman who inspired me that beautiful day, and that’s Cecily Tyson. When I woke up and realized how difficult it was to be an actor and how rejection was so high – another beautiful face graced the screen when I was in college, and that’s Meryl who always inspires me… What is there but a dream? You can’t trade in a dream for another dream. ” She also gave a shout out to the kids in Central Falls, Rhode Island “ to dream big, and dream fierce .” When The Help won for lead cast, Viola again stepped up and brought the room to tears. She said, in part, “ It’s been such a joy to just be a part of this cast… I just want to say that the stain of racism and sexism is not just for people of color or women. It’s all of our burden, all of us. I don’t care how orfinary you may feel, we all of us can inspire change .” It was a nice way to end the night. I loved Viola’s white sleeveless Marchesa dress with the asymmetric gold sequin pattern along the bodice. I thought it was flattering and atypically pretty for Marchesa. Kaiser told me that it looked like Viola was wearing a boob sling, though, and I definitely noticed how bouncy she was. The dress didn’t look as lovely in motion as it did in photos. I thought her gold cuff bracelet was amazing. She told a cute story to Giuliana Rancic on the red carpet about how her daughter, adopted 3 months ago, tried on her jewelry while she was getting ready and kept saying “ Nice, momma .” Octavia Spencer went with a draped gray Tadashi Shoji with a sequin bodice that was similar to a lot of the other dresses she wore this season. She looked very elegant and I’ve enjoyed seeing her style this season. She also gave a rousing acceptance speech that paid homage to the women who came before her, and thanked civil rights activist Medgar Evers as an “unsung hero” of the film. She dedicated her SAG “ to the downtrodden, the underserved, underpriviledged, overtaxed whether emotionally, physically or financially .” Octavia is getting some press for some comments she made backstage about how she needs to lose weight. This makes me sad, because it should really be about her acting ability, not her size. She was asked a question and she answered it in a self deprecating way. She also joked that “ If more women ate, they would be a lot happier. Let me tell you, I am a lot grumpier when I don’t eat .” I can definitely relate. This was Octavia’s date, her friend Josh Hopkins from “Cougar Town,” aka the guy that Courteney Cox probably cheated with. He really gushed about her to Giuliana, and said “ To see a friends’ dreams come true, there’s nothing that can make you happier .” That’s sweet!

Just shoot me in the face now, because Angelina Jolie wore a shiny black (trash bag) sack dress to the Screen Actors Guild Awards, and I LOVED IT. The dress is Jenny Packham, and yes, this is a look we’ve seen on Angelina many times before. Initially, when I saw the dress, I thought it was leather, and it reminded me of the iconic black leather Versace gown she wore to the premiere of Mr. and Mrs. Smith in 2005. Of course, Angelina has worn variations on the black sack gown many times before, but that doesn’t mean I can’t still love the look on her, right? This shiny gown is Jenny Packham, and it’s not leather. It’s some kind of treated fabric made to look like “liquid metal”. It’s an interesting treatment for a dress, and it suits Jolie. Plus, I like her styling here. Big hair (my favorite on her), big vintage jewelry – she wore “a bracelet and earrings by House of Lavande, a Platt Boutique bracelet, Gucci shoes and a Louis Vuitton bag.” Some of said that this is more of a premiere look for Jolie, and I don’t disagree. This is exactly the kind of thing she often wears to her own premieres. But for an awards show, does that mean this look is too “dressed down”? I don’t think so. CB told me that she thought Angelina’s forehead looked Botoxy when Angelina was talking to Guiliana Rancic, but I had my Brangeloonie goggles on, so I missed that. I did think Brad looked a little bit… puffy/shiny? I suspect him of Botox more than her, but I’m speaking from my Jolie-specific girl-boner. Still, I was sad to see Brad lose the SAG award, but I think it might be a good sign that Jean Dujardin won and not George Clooney. It means Clooney doesn’t have this bitch sewn up, and the Best Actor race is still a contest. Which means Brad will have to campaign even harder. Brad and Angelina should just f–king elope. Stop talking about marriage, and just do it. All for the sake of the Oscar campaign. Photos courtesy of WENN.

I was really happy to see Modern Family win best Comedy Ensemble at last night’s Screen Actors Guild Awards. They are one of the best ensembles on TV, and arguably the best comedic ensemble. Plus, it was nice to see the entire cast get awards, especially after the individual actors lost out. Sofia Vergara and Julie Bowen might be competitive in real life, but I’d like to think that they are actually are professional friends/girlfriends too. I’d also like to think that they coordinated their colors last night, because Sofia’s shade of pink and Julie’s shade of purple looked really pretty together, and it would nice if they thought that out beforehand. Incidentially, I think Sofia is maybe helping Julie out stylistically? Because Julie looked GREAT last night, and she usually looks horrible at these awards shows. So here’s Sofia in Marchesa. Yes, it’s Marchesa. Ugh. But! It wasn’t the worst, and it fit her like a glove. I didn’t care for the “architectural element” at the bust, though – if there was ever a woman who needed NOTHING extra at the bust, it’s Sofia Vergara. Still, she looked gorgeous. She knows it too. When Guiliana Rancic asked her what she would change on her body if given the chance, Sofia was stumped. Sofia’s red carpet interviews are the best, aren’t they? She said she wants people to pay more attention to her ass – as well we should! Meanwhile, Julie Bowen’s dress was Temperley London. My thing with Julie is that she’s got that beautiful face that so many men love, but she’s a very slender, sinewy woman, and her figure doesn’t always look great in gowns and revealing dresses. She needs to find a way to make it all about her face while covering up everything that should be covered up, and I think this dress did that. She covered up her chest, which is a problem area for her, and showed off her slender, toned back. From the front, though, it was all about her face. And this is one of her best looks ever, I think. Here are some photos of Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban at the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards in LA Friday night. Nicole wore this black-and-white Collette Dinnigan dress which… I like? I think? You know how I feel about lace and stuff, but I think this black lace effect was done beautifully, and Nicole definitely does not look like she’s wearing a white tablecloth with a black lace overlay. Well… the belt helps. I’m a little disappointed that Nicole didn’t do a big bouffant, though. I was one of the few that loved her giant, Southern-style, teased-up look the other day , and seeing her on another red carpet with her hair down (save for one strand pulled back with a tiny clip!) is kind of boring. I have a quick question – does anyone else think Nicole dresses too “girlie” for her age, or is that not a thing? Like, she’s not Zooey Deschanel, a 30-something woman who dresses like a 6-year-old on a sugar high. And it’s not like Nicole is dressing “too young” in the sense that her clothes are too revealing or too “young startlet”. But there’s something that I find too “precious” about Nicole’s red carpet style over the past year. Her style used to be so much more sophisticated and avant-garde, but now it’s just little lace dresses and frills and stuff. I’m guessing it only bugs me . As for Keith – STOP FLAT-IRONING YOUR HAIR. Enough. You have the same hair as Cojo . Shall we even discuss Nicole’s lips? There are a few photos where it seems like her bottom lip is a giant, immovable slug. I’m reminded of that photo Michael K just used the other day – go look at Nicole’s vintage, original lips , and then come back and look at her lips in these photos. Dear God. Diane Kruger and Vanessa Paradis made the rounds at Paris’s annual Sidaction benefit, proceeds of which go toward AIDS charities. The event, now in its tenth year, is one of the social centerpieces of Couture Fashion Week , and Diane and Vanessa have both been busy shuttling between shows and parties over the last few days. Yesterday, they caught up with friends like a Nina-Ricci clad Clémence Poésy, model Anja Rubik, and designer Christian Louboutin . Diane wore a lacy Erdem gown , while Vanessa was decked out in sequined Chanel. The front row duties have been mixed in with interviews for Vanessa. She’s simultaneously talking up her new movie Café de Flore , which came out in France earlier this week. While making the press rounds, she addressed the recent rumors about a split with longtime love Johnny Depp . Vanessa called the stories “false,” hopefully putting an end to the latest round of speculation about their romance. View Slideshow ›

These are some new photos of Katherine Heigl at last night’s NYC premiere of One for the Mone y, the first (and hopefully last?) adaptation of Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum-bounty-hunter series. I cannot even begin to describe how AWFUL this movie looks, or what a terrible casting choice Dame Heigl was for the Plum role. And here’s a telling sidenote: considering how Jersey-centric the stories are, did it not occur to anyone to do the premiere IN New Jersey? But let’s just concentrate on how Heigl looked at the premiere – she wore this full-on Herve L. Leroux gown which… eh. It looks like a dress Heigl could have worn to the Golden Globes, and on the red carpet for her premiere, it just seems overblown. Too goddessy. That being said, it’s a pretty enough dress, and Heigl’s body looks good. Her styling is another matter altogether. What is Heigl’s consistent styling problem? She always wears way too much makeup, and her hair is always a grandmother-approved wreck. Plus, I couldn’t swear to it, but she looks tweaked to me. It could just be the shovel-full of makeup, though. Let’s get back to the movie – how terrible. My biggest concern, though, is that it WON’T bomb. That it will actually make money and they’ll think about making another one. Photos courtesy of Fame, WENN.

Katherine Heigl’s Leroux gown & grandmother hair: over-styled or lovely?
Yesterday there was a lot of debate over comments that Cynthia Nixon made to the NY Times in which she asserted that it was her “choice” to be gay . Many gay people find those remarks potentially damaging to the gay community, as they can be misused to make the claim that all gay people “chose” to be with same sex partners. Well Cynthia did make the distinction that her comments only applied to her situation, and I thought she made a good case. She said, in part, “ they said [the remarks in a speech I made imply] that homosexuality can be a choice. And for me, it is a choice. I understand that for many people it’s not, but for me it’s a choice, and you don’t get to define my gayness for me .” Fair enough, but a lot of people wonder why Cynthia doesn’t self identify as bisexual if she feels that it’s her “choice” to be with a woman instead of a man. In an interview with The Daily Beast, Cynthia kind-of explains that. You’ve been quoted as saying about these two relationships in your life: “In terms of sexual orientation, I don’t really feel I’ve changed … I’ve been with men all my life and I’d never fallen in love with a woman. But when I did, it didn’t seem so strange. I’m just a woman in love with another woman.” I’m a bit confused. Were you a lesbian in a heterosexual relationship? Or are you now a heterosexual in a lesbian relationship? That quote seemed like you were fudging a bit. It’s so not fudging. It’s so not. I think for gay people who feel 100 percent gay, it doesn’t make any sense. And for straight people who feel 100 percent straight, it doesn’t make any sense. I don’t pull out the “bisexual” word because nobody likes the bisexuals. Everybody likes to dump on the bisexuals. But it is the “B” in LGBT. CN: I know. But we get no respect You just said “we,” so you must self-identify as one. I just don’t like to pull out that word. But I do completely feel that when I was in relationships with men, I was in love and in lust with those men. And then I met Christine and I fell in love and lust with her. I am completely the same person and I was not walking around in some kind of fog. I just responded to the people in front of me the way I truly felt… Look, I understand for political reasons why some people want to kind of squelch this idea that being gay might be a choice, because a lot of the rights we want are posited on the supposition that why are you denying me my rights any more than if I were created a different color? But I don’t feel the need to cede the definition of what a gay person is to the bigots. They don’t get to define who I am. [From The Daily Beast ] I like that she’s asserting that she can call herself gay if she wants, and that no one else can tell her who she is. I also get how this can really piss off gay people, because it can be a hard fight for some people to be accepted for how they know they were born. It seems sad that being bisexual is still a dirty word today, especially for men. I wish there was greater acceptance that our sexuality is on a continuum and that there are people in the middle. It was refreshing when Anna Paquin came out as bisexual , because it was just so rare to hear. Cynthia is also bald as a badger (I’ve never heard that phrase before, but google suggested it and I thought it was cute.) She’s starring as a cancer victim in the play Wit . Instead of just wearing a skull cap, Cynthia really did shave off all her hair. She told The Daily Beast that she doesn’t like her new look. “ I think I look like Ralph Fiennes as Lord Voldemort. Or maybe Nosferatu .” Cynthia is a breast cancer survivor after being diagnosed with early stage cancer almost five years ago. She seems to have beaten it with a lumpectomy and she still takes Tamoxifen. Photo from ABC via OMG! . She is shown with hair on 12-13-11 credit: WENN.com

'In the winter I separate, in the summer I marry': Vanessa Paradis vague over split reports as she hits Chanel fashion show After talking publicly and vaguely yesterday about her relationship with one of Hollywood's biggest actors, Vanessa Paradis today attended the 2012 Chanel Haute-Couture Spring / Summer Show. The French beauty looked great in a black leather jacket and white silk dress as she shined at the Paris Fashion Week show at Grand Palais in France. The star showed no signs of hiding from the spotlight after her cryptic and vague message last night about her long term partner Johnny Depp. Continue reading

Making sure to stay at the forefront of the fashion industry, Cameron Diaz and Jessica Chastain were on-hand for the Giorgio Armani Prive Haute-Couture show as part of Paris Fashion Week on Tuesday (January 24). The “Gambit” beauty and “The Help” actress took a front row seat next to one another as they took in the luxury designer’s latest looks. Also in attendance for the stylish soiree was fellow fashionista, reality TV starlet Olivia Palermo, who turned up in a super chic faux fur ensemble. Just yesterday, Olivia and Cameron joined alongside Bar Refaeli for a first-hand look at what’s to come from the Doir as the fashion house took to the catwalk.

This is a great idea for Kelly Osbourne – just always appear at events with Rachel Zoe, and Kelly will always look better by comparison. These photos are from last night’s benefit for the LA Gay & Lesbian Center – Rachel Zoe was honored, and the proceeds of the evening’s event went to benefit homeless youth services. Kelly was just there because… I don’t even know. I guess she said nice things about Rachel. Anyway, we need to talk about Rachel Zoe’s face, although I feel bad about saying anything, considering she was only out and about for a good cause, and because she was being honored for her support of the gay community. But why can’t someone (anyone!) talk to Rachel about what’s going on with her face? It’s not just her (alleged) coke-and-starvation diet. She’s got other stuff happening to her face. As for Kelly, doesn’t she looks refreshingly young and adorable by comparison? I’m telling you, this is the secret! Just stand near Rachel Zoe, and you’ll instantly looks so much cuter. I don’t even mind Kelly’s lavender hair here – her styling is so much better in casual/business appearances than on formal red carpets. Photos courtesy of WENN.
