Diane Kruger in gold Vivienne Westwood in Cannes: perfection?

Ah, Cannes. I really feel like Cannes has been kind of boring this year, but I have high hopes that things start picking up throughout the week. Brad Pitt’s movie premieres tomorrow. Nicole Kidman is due at the festival later on in the week – she’s always good for a fashion moment on the French red carpet. But for now, I’m making due with jury member Diane Kruger and some assorted British C-listers. First: La Kruger in Vivienne Westwood. OMG. I LOVE IT. I like when Diane goes full-on glam and doesn’t try to work an unconventional style. She’s so beautiful, and she really does try to change up her look from day to day, premiere to premiere. And I completely cosign everything about this – love her hair, love her makeup, love the corseted bodice of the Westwood gown, love it all. The shoes look like torture devices, but Diane pulls it off. Also – she was there with Joshua Jackson. How cute are they? Ewan McGregor, just because. Next: Cheryl Cole in Stephane Rolland Couture. I can’t say I’m wild about this, but you know how I feel about feathers in general, and feathered trains in particular. Plus, in many photos, the red feathers are the exact shade as the carpet, so there’s a weird effect of Cheryl looking like she’s erupting (in a volcano of feathers) onto the red carpet. Also: she still wears WAY too much makeup. There’s no need to spackle it on like that. Kelly Brook was in Cannes too! The white dress is for a photo call, the printed jumpsuit is just her casual Cannes look. The white is pretty, although somewhat Kardashian-esque. The jumpsuit is terrible. Photos courtesy of WENN.

Taylor Swift, voluptuous in red Elie Saab at the Billboard Awards: beautiful?

Here are some new photos of Taylor Swift at last night’s Billboard Music Awards. Her gown is Elie Saab – isn’t it nice to see her in a bright color? This red looks beautiful on her, and I’m so, SO happy it’s not a pastel. It would have been great to see her do a sophisticated hairstyle with this gown, but… baby steps. This is a real improvement. It’s also worth noting… is Swifty giving her new boobs their official red carpet debut? About a month ago, there were some whispers that Taylor Swift, famous for being a cute, flat-chested beanpole of a girl, had gotten a boob job. Hollywood Life ran several stories about Swifty’s magical upgrade from an A-cup to a C-cup , although the photo evidence was kind of hit-or-miss. Yes, there was one photo set where Swifty’s boobs looked seriously enlarged – and one Twitter photo where Swifty’s magically busty cleavage was on full display. But in the weeks to come, there was some deflation… although it wasn’t full deflation . Which makes me think that this whole “Swifty got a boob job” story was true, but she didn’t go on for the bigger C or D-cup. She just upgraded to a solid B-cup, bordering on C, and she invested in some push-up bras and stuff. Just my opinion. Here’s a photo of Swift on April 1st, once again: And here she is last night: So… yeah. From an A-cup to at least a B-cup. I think she’s showing off her new boobs. I also think it’s interesting that Swifty and her reps haven’t explicitly denied the implant story – Gossip Cop ran a denial , but it was a weak one from an unnamed “source close to Swift.” There hasn’t been an official word. Interesting. Of course, it’s her body, her choice. I’m just interested in how Swifty explains her boob job to her young fans. Photos courtesy of WENN.

Carrie Underwood in Oscar de la Renta at the Billboard Awards: Barbie fug or pretty?

Carrie Underwood was one of the big names at The Billboard Awards last night, and she brought her husband with her! I always have a hard time finding photos of Carrie with her husband, hockey player Mike Fisher. The last event photos I can find of the two of them together are from the Grammy Awards in 2010, so this is somewhat of a big deal for them to attend together and pose on the red carpet. They’re such a good looking couple. In terms of her poofy Oscar de la Renta dress, I like it in spite of myself. With all that tulle and frou-frou I would expect to hate it, but my guy reaction is positive. Somehow, this dress is huge, feminine and over the top but manages to pull it off with a little whimsy. I think the tight cleavage-hiding bodice and the modern, controlled messiness of the skirt keep it from being too girly. Carrie’s too-long curls and fake-looking extensions are too much with this look, though. I was thinking that before I saw that our friends at Red Carpet Fashion Awards come to the same conclusion. This giant dress calls for a sleeker ‘do to balance out the cake-topper tulle skirt. In video of her performance, below, her hair looks even more ridiculous in motion. Her frosty makeup is similarly overdone, but I guess she’s on stage and has an excuse for overdoing it. Carrie wasn’t nominated in any categories last night, which I was surprised to learn. She did perform “Blown Away” during the ceremony. She changed into a red flowing gown for her performance. I like that she’s keeping covered up. Normally I would speculate about that, but she’s made it clear that she and her husband aren’t ready for babies. Here’s her performance: photo credit: Fame and WENN

Katy Perry in pale violet Blumarine at the Billboard Awards: pretty or boring?

Here’s Katy Perry at last night’s Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas, where she’s still pulling the horrific dark lipstick look that makes her look like a slutty Morticia Aadams in a faux-gothy effort to remind us that her “music is about get real f&#*ing dark.” The hair is still violet, and it looks fine (by Katy standards), but I wish she’d trash the pseudo-hardcore lipstick because dark lips really wash out her complexion. Let’s talk about the dress. Katy wore Blumarine (like she did at Elton John’s Oscar bash ), and this gown is kind of shapeless and very unlike Katy’s usual gimmicky take on fashion. It’s not an awful dress, but it just does very little for her normally tiny-waisted figure. Here’s the back view, which is slightly more interesting from that angle than it is from the front. Perhaps one clue why Katy chose a relatively modest dress for the occasion is that she brought her grandmother as her date. That’s actually really sweet, and I’m sure grandma appreciated not having to pose next to her granddaughter’s massive cleavage on the red carpet. See? Katy can be respectful when she wants to do so. Katy also performed at the awards, and she chose to showcase her upcoming single, “Wide Awake.” People got advance word that Katy was set to perform this song, which is supposedly about (surprise) her disastrous marriage to Russell Brand: Is Katy Perry trying to send a message to Russell Brand? The singer, whose divorce from Brand is supposed to be finalized next month, is set to sing a revealing breakup song, “Wide Awake” off her latest album, this Sunday at The Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas, PEOPLE has learned. “It’s obviously about Russell,” a source said, though Perry has not publicly confirmed it. The song speaks about being blinded by love, including the lyrics, “I wish I knew then what I know now — wouldn’t dive in, wouldn’t bow down.” [From People ] Sure enough, that tipster (probably Katy’s dad) was correct, and Katy performed “Wide Awake” during her live performance. Here are some more lyrics from the song and a video of her onstage as well. I’m wide awake Not losing any sleep Picked up every piece And landed on my feet I’m wide awake Need nothing to complete myself – nooohooo I’m wide awake Yeah, I am born again Outta the lion’s den I don’t have to pretend And it’s too late The story’s over now, the end [From YouTube ] Poor Russell. He’s been walking around saying nice things about his estranged wife, and she’s still trying to cut him down during awards show performances with her silly pop songs. Of course, this song will probably hit #1 too, and then Katy will deny that she wrote it about him . It’s all part of her act, you know. Now back to Katy’s grandma — I love her sparkly cane! Such a nice touch. Photos courtesy of Fame/Flynet and WENN

Cannes: Salma Hayek & Jada Pinkett bring out their inner drag queens & more

These are some assorted photos from the Cannes Film Festival from the past… let’s say, 48 hours. There were a few big premieres, although… I don’t think some of these films are actually in competition. Like, Madagascar 3 isn’t in competition. Lawless is, although the star of Lawless , Ryan Gosling, didn’t show up to Cannes. Hm…anyway. These photos aren’t all-inclusive or anything, these are just the dudes and ladies and dresses I wanted to talk about. Go ahead and yell at me. First up! Salma Hayek (with Francois-Henri Pinault) in Gucci at the Madagascar 3 premiere. It’s very… eh. I prefer when Salma goes for cleaner, simpler styles. This whole look seems very showgirl and drag queen to me. Gerard Butler was at Friday night’s Haiti Benefit. He’s done a lot of work with charities related to Haiti. I’m surprised he looks so clean and sober, aren’t you? We need to have a conversation about Tom Hardy’s giant, furry beard. The conversation: I want that beard to be tickling my thighs. End of conversation. (PS… Shia LaBeouf looks gross.). Guy Pearce!!! He was at the photo call for Lawless. I love him so much. I dig his flannel too, for some strange reason. He looks hot. Jada Pinkett Smith in Alberta Ferretti. This was my favorite look from Jada for all of her Cannes appearances – and this is just what she wore to the Madagascar 3 photo call! It’s a great color for her. Jada’s worst look? This Atelier Versace in orange and gold that she wore the M3 premiere. God, that’s just awful. Jessica Chastain in white. AGAIN. This one is Armani – it’s a beautiful dress, and it would have made a gorgeous wedding dress. Try a different color, Jessica. And here’s Jessica in gold Gucci. Eh. I don’t hate it, but I don’t love it either. Charlotte Casiraghi in Gucci, walking the carpet for Once Upon A Time In America. Doesn’t she look so much like her mother? She’s gorgeous. But! She’s a terrible sloucher. I know it’s all “I’m sort of French, I’m royal, I’m beautiful, I don’t have to stand up straight or wear clothes that are tailored.” But still. Stand up straight. Guess the Oscar-winning actor/actress in this Candy Magazine photo shoot?

I think we’ve discussed the magazine CANDY before. Like, James Franco was on the cover once? Yes. It’s a magazine for (and done by) transgendered individuals, with pictorials devoted to… well, you can guess. I’m not judging anything, seriously. This magazine is not for me, so I don’t have a real opinion on the content. Only this: CAN YOU F–KING BELIEVE THIS IS TILDA SWINTON????? OMG. If you were going to guess the “star” of this pictorial, who would you have guessed before even considering Tilda Swinton? I have a list. 1. Florence Welch. 2. David Bowie. 3. Cher. 4. Lady Gaga. 5. A random drag-queen that Candy picked up at a LGBT Spelling Bee. 6. Adele. 7. CHER?! 8. Chaz Bono. 9. Any of the contestants of RuPaul’s Drag Race . 10. RuPaul. The fact that it’s Tilda, and that she wore these wigs and had her makeup done (by drag queens) and wore these clothes… does it make you love her more? In my case… kind of. She really is a chameleon, isn’t she? Amazing. Candy Magazine photos courtesy of The Fashion Spot .

Kristen Stewart in a BCBG minidress in Madrid: boring or awesome?

New photos of Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron! Somehow, they managed to only do a photo call in Berlin yesterday, and they didn’t have a premiere…? I can’t find the photos if there was a Berlin premiere. So they’re on to their next stop: Madrid! These are the pics from the Madrid photo call. Charlize is wearing this red Giambattista Valli which… I’m not sure about. It’s a great color on her, for sure. And I like the idea of it. But the execution, with the puffy shoulder embellishments – it’s kind of rough on her tall, broad figure. It makes her look top-heavy and football-player-ish. Kristen’s dress is BCBG Max Azaria. It’s cute… eh. I would like it better without the leather faux-suspenders. Beyond that, it’s a silhouette that Kristen goes to all too often – the sleeveless, half-shift minidress. Accessorized by bad posture. It’s just kind of meh. Incidentally, while promoting SWATH, Kristen was asked by Celebuzz about all of those casting rumors regarding 50 Shades of Grey . As you know, 50 Shades was based on Twilight fan-fiction, and the book is completely AWFUL. But, as I said, it was written with Kristen and Sparkles in mind. So what does Kristen think about it? Kristen says : “I haven’t read the book yet– so I don’t know…I’m dying to make another movie with Rob, I think that we’re a good team… I just haven’t read it, so I don’t know what it is, but I would love to work with him again.” Sure. Fine. If Kristen and Sparkles get wrangled into this mess, that would be fine with me. Just keep g–damn Michael Fassbender OUT OF IT . Photos courtesy of WENN.

Cannes: Tilda Swinton leads the fashion parade at the ‘Moonrise Kingdom’ premiere

I hope you’re just coming in here to look at fashion and a few lonely hot guys. I’m not going to include photos of Bruce Willis and Bill Murray at the Cannes Film Festival “opening night” premiere of Moonrise Kingdom . It’s not that I don’t love Bruce and Bill. There’s just limited space, you know? And please don’t yell at me too much for how we’re organizing Cannes photos – sometimes it’s really difficult to decide how to group these things! So if you want to see Murray and Willis, you can check out some pics of them at yesterday’s photo call here . Let’s just start in with the fashion, shall we? Tilda Swinton is one of the stars of Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom. Tilda wore her beloved Haider Ackermann. My default position is always “Tilda can do no wrong.” But something was bugging me about this dress, and when it finally occurred to me, I cannot un-see it. Look at her dress and slowly let your eyes unfocus a bit. Her dress looks like a puckered a–hole, right? WRONG. Jessica Chastain in Alexander McQueen. I actually like the dress, I LOVE the pockets, I like her accessories, and her hair and makeup are fine. Well done, Jessica. She does well when she keeps things simple, I think. Maybe she got a new stylist? The last one did her no favors. Diane Kruger in a pale blue Giambattista Valli gown – she’s one of the judges, remember? She looks like a Germanic version of Grace Kelly. Beautiful… but rather icy. The dress changes colors in different lighting too, but I’m confident it’s really pale blue. I do love this on her, I just wish her hair was a different style. Jane Fonda in Versace. Er. This whole thing is kind of awful. Jane has a new face and a new wig, and I’m sorry, this dress is just wrong on her. Freida Pinto in Michael Angel. NOOOOOOoooooooo. This looks so cheap!!! Stop it, Frieda. You’re so pretty, you don’t have to wear this kind of busted dress. Lana Del Rey in Alberta Ferretti. Um, why is she even there? One of these (fake) things is not like the other. The dress is super-boring too. Eva Longoria in Marchesa. I’m getting a Cannes flashback. Last year… or the year before? I was sick as a dog and hopped up on sinus medication and Eva showed up on EVERY FRIGGIN’ RED CARPET, wearing an endless supply of hideous, tacky, Vegas dresses, and I had to write about the photos while I quietly hallucinated. So… yes. This Marchesa tragedy is so bad, it gave me flashbacks of the last time Eva looked horrible at Cannes. Why does she come to Cannes? Why does she insist on wearing the biggest, ugliest dresses on the red carpet? Ewan McGregor. So cute in blue D&G. Wes Anderson and Ed Norton. Would you hit it? With either of them? I used to be into Norton, but… I don’t know. It faded. I don’t really feel anything for him these days. Photos courtesy of Fame and WENN.
