It’s always an exciting event each year, and the 2012 BET Awards nominations have been announced to the public. Topping all contenders is Kanye West , who has scored a total of seven mentions with all but one coming from his collaboration with Jay-Z called Watch The Throne. Speaking of Jay, he’ll compete in five categories, while his wife/babymama Beyonce Knowles bested him with six nods. In other categories, “The Help” star Viola Davis is among the ladies hoping to take home the trophy for Best Actress while Denzel Washington vies for Best Actor accolades when the 2012 BET Awards comes to the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on July 1st. She always has special treats for her guests, and Ellen DeGeneres had a very cool surprise for Justin Bieber earlier this week. In an episode of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” set to air today (May 23), the “Boyfriend” singer is treated to a graduation ceremony to celebrate his recent GED completion. Justin received a gown and a specially-designed cap that hovered above his head as Ellen noted “how important his hair is.” DeGeneres also shared her feelings of pride over his accomplishments as she presented him with a diploma.

Kicking off their European tour run in the UK, Jay-Z and Kanye West unwound following a concert in London on Saturday night (May 19) by throwing a ‘Watch The Throne’ tour London show after party at DSTRKT. The hip-hop hitmakers threw the lavish bash as they’re slated to perform the next three nights at London’s O2 Arena before heading to Switzerland with ten shows following before tour’s end on June 13th in Birmingham. As for the star-laden after party, Kanye turned up to DSTRKT with his black dress clad E! reality star girlfriend, Kim Kardashian , on his arm. Enjoying being able to spend time with her man on the road, Kim tweeted a pic of two plates of gourmet food with shiny gold and silver utensils atop to go with a message reading, “Meal with my baby on the throne before the show!” With Kim’s brother Rob also turning up with his new lady, Rita Ora, other star power int he house at DSTRKT included Jay’s Coldplay rocker pal Chris Martin , who was joined by his actress wife Gwyneth Paltrow and designer friend Stella McCartney. Topping off the list of ‘Watch the Throne partygoers was the always-gorgeous Rihanna , who certainly sounds as if she had an eventful evening – though she’s having trouble remembering it. The 24-year-old tweeted, “You know it was a good night when u wake up n run to your BFF’s room like… How did I get in my bed? Did I walk? Stumble? Get carried?”

Among the countless swanky soirees taking place in southern France over the weekend, the Vanity Fair and Gucci Party once again drew an impressive guest list on Saturday night (May 19). The annual Cannes Film Festival fete was held at the Hotel Du Cap in Antibes, with well-dressed couples such as Oscar-winning director Michel Hazanavicius and his actress wife Berenice Bejo schmoozing with Gucci clad Jennifer Connelly and her “A Beautiful Mind” actor mate Paul Bettany. Other loved-up pair roaming the grounds included Salma Hayek and Francois Henri Pinault; Chris Pine and his model sweetheart Dominique Piek; and big screen vets Robert De Niro (with Grace Hightower) and Alec Baldwin (with Hilaria Thomas). Rounding out the star power at the Vanity Fair and Gucci Party were Naomi Watts , who dined alongside Jeffrey Katzenberg, as well as Lily Cole, Petra Nemcova, Gemma Arterton, James Woods, Bret Ratner, Alexander Payne, Jemima Khan and Paz Vega.
