Michael Jackson’s $25,000 Gold-Plated Coffin

Michael Jackson will be buried in a $25,000 (?15,300) gold casket in a funeral that is set to fulfil his own prophecy by becoming the greatest show on Earth. The coffin, a rare design called the Promethean, is made of solid bronze but is 14-carat gold-plated with a hand-polished mirror finish and lined with velvet. It was ordered last night from America’s Batesville Casket Company and is identical to the coffin used to bury James Brown in 2006, according to TMZ, the website which first broke the news of the King of Pop’s death. Jackson’s memorial service will take place on Tuesday at the LA Lakers basketball stadium, the Staples Center, where he rehearsed for his scheduled comeback concerts at The O2 just two days before his death. The Center has a 20,000 capacity and the family is planning to distribute 11,000 tickets free to the general public. Big screens outside the venue will relay the events inside to around one million people who are expected to assemble to pay their respects from 10am onwards. The memorial will feature performances and tributes from a host of music and acting legends and will open with a parade of circus animals, including tigers and elephants walking trunk to tail - part of LA’s annual Parade Of The Elephants. The parade, devised by The Ringling Bros Barnum And Bailey Circus, which has had to postpone it show at the Staples Center. A spokesman for the circus said Tuesday’s event would be the ‘greatest show on Earth’, exactly the phrase Jackson used in 2002 when asked what he thought his funeral would be like. Eerily, Jackson replied: ‘It’s going to be the greatest show on Earth. That’s what I want. Fireworks and everything.’ Among the guests expected to attend the memorial service are Diana Ross, Elizabeth Taylor and Sir Paul McCartney. After the memorial, there will be a private ceremony at Forest Lawn cemetery in Hollywood which will be attended by family and close friends only. But Jackson’s long-term friend and producer Quincy Jones said that he will not be going. He said: “No. I’m not going to the funeral. I don’t wanna go to no funeral. It’s not what I want to see.” Randy Phillips, chief executive of AEG Live, which owns the Staples Center and was Jackson’s promoter, confirmed tickets would be free, but could not say exactly how they would be distributed. “As we speak, we’re working on the details,” he said. The Barnum & Bailey Circus spokesman said the company was happy to help in ‘exceptional circumstances’ .

Emma Watson “pounced” on Rupert Grint during their on screen kiss. The 19-year-old beauty dreaded locking lips with her co-star in ‘Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince’ and was in a hurry to shoot the scene. She said on UK TV show ‘Friday Night With Jonathan Ross’: “I pounced on him, I was so desperate to get it over with.” Emma, who is set to start at Columbia University in the US later this year, hopes to balance her studies with her acting career. The British actress is keen to pursue a new direction once she has finished filming the final ‘Harry Potter’ movie. When asked if her future lies in acting, Emma said: “Definitely. I’m so excited about going to university but it doesn’t mean to say I can’t do something else, I want to have my cake and eat it. I’d like to try comedy.” Emma also insists she doesn’t feel like she has lost out on a childhood, after landing the role of Hermione Granger aged just 10. She said: “I never felt like I was missing out - we were able to be kids because we were together, whatever weird thing we were doing.”

Prince Harry: I Want To Make My Mother Proud

Prince Harry will speak on global issues to make his mother proud. The 24-year-old royal - who gave his first political speech on poverty and Aids yesterday (03.07.09) - says he “aspires” to make a difference like his mother, the late Princess Diana. He reportedly told friends: “My mother didn’t mince her words and nor will I.” Harry told the audience at a reception to celebrate the third anniversary of his charity Sentebale - which helps support Aids orphans and vulnerable youngsters in Lesotho, Africa - of his determination to follow in Diana’s footsteps and help fight for “the deprived and afflicted”. A source said: “This was his most outspoken speech yet. While he knows he needs to get more experience under his belt before he can project himself on the global stage as she did, the one thing he learnt from her was the value of being blunt. He knows the only way to solve the crisis facing Lesotho at the moment is to be blunt about its problems and blunt about the solutions needed.” The prince used the opportunity to highlight Lesotho’s problems with extreme poverty and HIV/Aids. Speaking at the event in London, Harry said: “Lesotho is such a wonderful country and is incredibly close to my heart. Beautiful as it is though, its people battle devastating problems. “Unless we help Lesotho in its struggle to nurture and protect its children and bring them hope for the future, the Basotho - this wonderful people - will be decimated and their society destroyed. It is a stark thing to say, but it is the truth. “This may sound a tall order especially for a charity so small, but unless we think big, unless we are ambitious, nothing will change.” Harry founded the Sentebale with Lesotho’s Prince Seeiso in memory of his mother - who was known for speaking candidly about issues important to her, such as Aids bereavement - in 2006 following a visit to the country during his gap year.

Authorities Investigating Whether Rihanna Tattooed Without A License

Authorities in New York City are investigating claims that pop star Rihanna illegally tattooed several people at East Side Ink on Wednesday evening, MTV News reported. Rihanna was caught by the paparazzi with a tattoo instrument in her hand, reportedly inking people at the tattoo parlor. And now, the New York Department of Health and Mental Hygiene are looking into the alleged incident. “Only licensed tattoo artists can administer tattoos in the city according to the City’s Health Code,” the NYDHMH told MTV News in a statement. “We are sending someone to follow up on this.” East Side Ink owner Yadira told the music channel that Rihanna came to the shop with some friends and stayed for “a few hours, just hanging out and joking,” the woman said. Later, BangBang a tattooist at the parlor, the same man who gave Rihanna her infamous gun tattoo underneath her arm earlier this year, wanted the pop star to put some ink on him. “We had a blast,” Yadira said. “It was so funny and cute.” According to TMZ, however, the fun could lead to a fine. Tattooing without a license comes with penalties; $300 for the first offense, $500 for the second and $1,000 for the third. A representative for the “Disturbia” singer was not immediately available for comment.

Angelina Jolie may have some competition from a beautiful young blonde. Or Brad Pitt might have a daughter. While that sounds like the usual tabloid life, it is a bit more innocent as Gossip Girl star Blake Lively has admitted she would like Brad Pitt to play her on-screen dad in the show. Blake, 21, plays the role of Serena van der Woodsen in the hit US TV series. In the final episode of season two of the show, Serena was seen heading to Fiji to find her father and it is claimed he will be making an appearance in the third series of the teen show. Asked who she would like to play her dad, Blake said: “Brad Pitt. Or maybe [he should be cast] as my new boyfriend.” One would guess that would be a ratings boom for the show. Brad’s ex Jennifer Aniston appeared in the now canceled “Dirt” for her good friend Courteney Cox on that series, but don’t expect to see Brad on any TV series soon.
