Beckham cleared for key fixture

Real Madrid midfielder David Beckham is free to play in the crunch league game with Sevilla on Sunday after the club won an appeal against a suspension.

Beckham picked up his 10th yellow card against Athletic Bilbao last weekend, triggering a one-match ban.

But Real argued Beckham delayed taking a free-kick, which led to his booking, considering Athletic’s Fran Yeste was not the due 10 metres from the ball.

Real

are third in the league, one point behind second-placed Sevilla.

Barcelona are top of the league, two points ahead of Madrid.

Beckham recently returned from a six-week injury absence and has been in good style, providing goals for Sergio Ramos in victories by Valencia and Bilbao.

The former England captain has a maximum of six games remaining before he joins the Los Angeles Galaxy in August.
